What is Blepharitis?

Blepharitis is the inflammation of the eyelids, sometimes combined with blockage of the Meibomian glands. It is a common condition & not usually vision threatening, and may be associated with other skin conditions such as acne rosacea or dermatitis.

What are the Symptoms of Blepharitis?

  • Itchy, dry or water eyes.

  • Sticky eyelids in the morning.

  • Recurrent styes or chalazia.

  • Red, sore eyes.

Treatment Options for Blepharitis

A treatment regimen for blepharitis may include a combination of eyelid massage, eyelid cleansing and topical and oral medications. Dr Ye Chen will detail the various treatment options with you at your appointment, and instruct you as to the best treatment option for you.

Treatment can take 3-6 weeks to be effective, needing long term regular treatment to control symptoms.
